and Carly Wilson delivering the latest scoop from the digital realm. The world's biggest YouTuber, MrBeast, has expressed concern over the rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence, calling it"scary" for millions of creators who make content for a living. New AI tools, like Open A.I's Sora released last week, can produce fully-formed videos from simple text prompts, raising fears about copyright infringement and job security in creative industries. MrBeast questioned what will happen to creators when AI-generated videos match the quality of traditional content. The film and video game sectors have already seen significant industrial action over A.I's impact on jobs. YouTube itself offers AI video generation tools, including Google's Veo, which can produce content by learning from a subset of existing videos. Experts note AI lowers the cost of creativity, benefiting those who use it to enhance their content, though concerns about authenticity and originality remain. MrBeast tried using AI for generating video thumbnails earlier this year but faced backlash from fellow creators over copyright and ethical issues. Despite his worries, AI could still assist creators behind the scenes in production and graphics. The controversy highlights ongoing debates about A.I's role in media and whether it unfairly exploits existing creators’ work. As AI technology evolves, the creative community continues to navigate the balance between innovation and protecting original content.

Open A.I revealed that suspected Chinese government users requested Chat G.P.T's help in developing surveillance tools targeting the Uyghur minority and others deemed"high-risk." The AI was also asked to assist in creating promotional content for software that scans social media for extremist speech. This report highlights how authoritarian regimes increasingly leverage AI to enhance monitoring and repression capabilities. The U.S and China are fiercely competing in AI development, investing billions to gain technological advantages. Chinese authorities reportedly use AI to refine data analysis and language, improving surveillance operations but not creating entirely new cyberattack methods. Open A.I has banned accounts associated with these activities and noted similar misuse by hackers from Russia, North Korea, and criminal groups. Meanwhile, scammers employ AI for operational tasks but potential victims also use Chat G.P.T to detect fraud more frequently than scammers use it. The Chinese Embassy dismissed the allegations, emphasizing China's AI governance policies focused on innovation and security. U.S Cyber Command is actively developing AI tools for both defensive and offensive cyber operations. Overall, A.I's role in global power struggles underscores the ethical challenges tied to its deployment by state and non-state actors. Zelda Williams, daughter of the late Robin Williams, has publicly condemned AI-generated videos featuring her father. In an Instagram post, she urged people to stop sending her these deepfake clips, calling them disrespectful and harmful. She described the content as over-processed"hotdogs," twisting the legacies of real individuals into distorted recreations. Zelda emphasized that such AI recreations do not honor her father's memory and are more about cheap imitation than genuine art. This is not the first time she has spoken out against AI misuse, highlighting concerns about actors who cannot consent to being digitally recreated. The rise of celebrity deepfakes on social media has sparked wider debate, affecting figures like Scarlett Johansson and Neil Finn. Many of the Robin Williams deepfakes seem to have been produced using Open A.I’s new video generator, Sora 2. Despite copyright protections, free AI apps have flooded the internet with unauthorized content featuring popular characters. Open A.I has stated it will work with rights holders to manage copyright disputes but does not offer blanket opt-out options. The controversy underscores the ethical and legal challenges posed by AI-generated media in entertainment.

The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to three physicists for groundbreaking work on quantum mechanics. John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret, and John M. Martinis developed a circuit with zero electrical resistance to demonstrate quantum tunneling. This phenomenon shows how atoms and subatomic particles can pass through barriers they normally shouldn't cross. Their experiments transformed quantum tunneling from theory into a practical reality, laying the foundation for modern transistors and quantum computing. Clarke, who led the team at the University of California, Berkeley, called the award"completely stunned" during a call with reporters. Both Martinis and Devoret contributed to Google's quantum computing efforts, with Martinis leading the Quantum AI hardware team during a 2019 breakthrough in quantum supremacy. Martinis now holds professorships at Yale and UC Santa Barbara, while Devoret serves as chief scientist at Google Quantum AI. Their pioneering research has propelled the development of today's quantum computers. This prestigious prize places them among legendary physicists like Max Planck and Albert Einstein. The awards were officially announced on Tuesday. Google has introduced Gemini 2.5 Computer Use, an AI model capable of interacting with websites by clicking, scrolling, and typing within a browser window. This model allows AI to access data unavailable through APIs by navigating user interfaces designed for humans, not robots. Gemini 2.5 uses advanced visual understanding and reasoning to analyze requests and complete tasks like filling out forms or navigating complex web pages. Its applications include UI testing and managing tasks that require interaction with web interfaces lacking direct API connections. Google highlights that the model supports 13 actions, including opening browsers and dragging elements, but it is not yet optimized for full desktop operating system control. Demonstrations of Gemini 2.5 show the model completing activities such as playing games and browsing news sites, with videos sped up for viewer convenience. Available to developers via Google AI Studio and Vertex AI, Gemini 2.5 represents Google’s ongoing investment in AI agents that operate autonomously in browser environments. This announcement follows similar innovations from Open A.I and Anthropic, who have also advanced AI"computer use" capabilities. Google claims Gemini 2.5 outperforms other leading models on various web and mobile benchmarks. Unlike competitors, Google’s model exclusively interacts within a browser, offering a focused approach to AI-driven web navigation.
