and Carly Wilson delivering the latest scoop from the digital realm. Disney and Universal have filed a lawsuit against Midjourney, accusing the AI image generator of unlawfully producing images of their copyrighted characters such as Shrek, Darth Vader, and Buzz Lightyear. The complaint, lodged in a California district court, describes Midjourney as a"virtual vending machine" for unauthorized copies of their protected works. Disney and Universal allege that Midjourney not only creates these images on demand but also uses them to promote its services without investing in the original character creation. The lawsuit includes numerous examples of generated images featuring characters like Yoda, WALL-E, Deadpool, Iron Man, and many more. Both companies claim they have repeatedly asked Midjourney to stop the infringement, but the AI service has ignored these demands. This legal action marks the first major confrontation between Hollywood and generative AI technologies. The plaintiffs warn that Midjourney’s upcoming video AI tool may further violate copyrights by creating videos with their characters. They stress that the case represents clear-cut copyright infringement under existing law. Similar lawsuits have targeted other AI developers like Open A.I and Anthropic for alleged unauthorized use of copyrighted content. This ongoing trend highlights the growing legal challenges surrounding AI and intellectual property rights in the entertainment industry.

Meta C.E.O Mark Zuckerberg is ramping up efforts to regain ground in the AI race after setbacks with the company’s Llama 4 Behemoth model. He is assembling an elite team of about 50 researchers for a secretive"superintelligence group," backed by a$15 billion investment for a 49 percent stake in Scale.ai. Scale.ai, which has faced allegations of exploitative labor practices, specializes in data labeling for AI training and runs the Pentagon’s weapons automation program. Zuckerberg’s ambition is to develop an AI surpassing human intelligence, a goal widely viewed as unlikely by most experts. This move marks Meta’s largest external investment, and Scale.ai co-founder Alexandr Wang is joining the inner circle. Zuckerberg has promised AI developers freedom from investor pressure, citing Meta’s ad revenue and plans to build one of the world’s most powerful data centers. Allegations of unethical data scraping continue to dog Meta, including a class action lawsuit over millions of copyrighted books fed into Llama. Wang’s ties to the U.S defense industry and anti-China stance align with Zuckerberg’s increasing collaboration with government agencies. Despite past high-profile failures like the metaverse, Zuckerberg’s deep pockets suggest he will persist in pursuing bold, if controversial, AI ventures. The future of Meta’s AI ambitions remains uncertain, but the company clearly aims to stay a dominant player. Klarna has introduced an AI-powered phone hotline featuring a digital clone of C.E.O Sebastian Siemiatkowski. This AI version is trained on Siemiatkowski’s real voice, insights, and experiences to interact with customers. Users in the U.S and Sweden can call the hotline to provide feedback on product features, report issues, and suggest improvements. The AI C.E.O also answers questions about Klarna’s vision, mission, and company history. After each call, a transcript and summary are generated and analyzed by a large language model. Insights gathered populate an internal innovation dashboard for product and engineering teams to review. Klarna promises that feedback from the hotline could lead to actionable product improvements the very next day. The A.I's responses focus on encouraging users to share Klarna-related feedback rather than engaging in unrelated conversation. This initiative builds on Klarna’s previous use of AI, including replacing Siemiatkowski during earnings reports. The hotline aims to create a more direct channel between customers and the company to drive innovation.

A U.S. government website meant to provide information about vaccines has been defaced and now displays AI-generated spam content. The site, managed by the Department of Health and Human Services, has been hosting mostly gay-themed and LGBTQ+ posts since at least May 12, according to archived data. The identity of the hackers and their motives remain unclear, with no obvious purpose behind the spam other than spreading nonsensical AI content. This incident is part of a broader pattern where official U.S. government domains have previously been hijacked for scam advertisements and hacking services. A report from 404 Media revealed the vaccines website is linked to a larger spam campaign involving sites from NPR, Nvidia, and Stanford University. These compromised sites redirect users to a meaningless SEO spam page hosted on wowlazy.com. Security experts are concerned as these types of attacks undermine trust in government resources and digital safety. The HHS has yet to issue a public statement addressing the breach or steps to resolve it. Authorities are likely investigating the intrusion to prevent further exploitation. Vigilance is urged for users accessing official government sites amid rising cyber threats targeting trusted domains.
