Carly W:and Carly Wilson delivering the latest scoop from the digital realm. The rise of AI tools like Chat G.P.T has led to a surge in cheating among high school and college students, prompting educators to return to traditional methods. Sales of blue books, the classic exam booklets for in-class essays, have increased dramatically at major universities since late 2022. Texas A&M saw a 30% rise, the University of Florida nearly 50%, and UC Berkeley reported an 80% increase in blue book sales. These booklets limit students’ ability to rely on AI and require them to demonstrate knowledge without digital assistance. Roaring Spring Paper Products, the main producer of blue books, acknowledges this unexpected boost thanks to the AI era. However, experts warn that blue book exams cannot fully replace the depth and rigor of traditional take-home essays. A survey revealed that nearly 90% of college students admit to using Chat G.P.T for homework, highlighting ongoing challenges. AI-detection tools remain unreliable, making enforcement difficult. Some argue that stricter regulations on AI use may be necessary to protect academic integrity. The educational system continues to grapple with balancing technological advancement and preserving intellectual growth.
Adam N2:Apple is reportedly shifting its operating system naming convention to match calendar years, with iOS 19 becoming iOS 26 to align with 2026. This change will apply across all Apple platforms, including iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS, creating a unified branding system. The move aims to standardize the user interface and enhance cohesion across Apple's ecosystem. Sources suggest the new design will feature more circular bubble icons to streamline the experience. The changes are expected to be unveiled at Apple's WWDC event in June 2025. Alongside naming, Apple may introduce a more Mac-like multitasking interface on the iPad, addressing current limitations. The naming approach draws parallels to Samsung's strategy of number-year alignment but Apple moves ahead by one year, similar to car industry practices. Additional updates may include a live-translation feature for AirPods and expanded third-party AI integration for Siri. The full effects of these updates will likely become clear with the fall launch of new devices like the iPhone 17 series. Apple fans will have to wait until the official announcements to understand the full scope of these changes. Elon Musk has announced his departure from the Trump administration, signaling a return to focus on his companies SpaceX, Tesla, and xAI. Musk criticized the Trump administration’s tax bill, calling it a contributor to the growing budget deficit. He admitted spending too much time on politics and expressed frustration with federal bureaucracy. Despite previous close ties to Trump, Musk's exit was decided at a senior staff level without a formal conversation with the former president. Musk highlighted the failure of the government efficiency initiative known as Doge, blaming politicians and bureaucrats for its shortcomings. Investor backlash and declining public support during his political involvement reportedly affected Tesla's sales. Musk has since shifted to promoting ambitious goals for his companies, including self-driving cars, interplanetary rockets, and humanoid robots. He emphasized the need for radical productivity improvements to address America’s fiscal challenges. Musk’s social media presence now focuses on tech achievements rather than political commentary. He aims to rebuild investor confidence by selling a vision of transformative technology shaping the future.
Carly W:Telegram has partnered with Elon Musk’s xAI to integrate Grok AI into its encrypted messaging platform, with xAI investing$300 million in cash and equity. Telegram will receive 50% of subscription revenues generated by Grok within the app. This move comes amid C.E.O Pavel Durov’s legal troubles, including his 2024 arrest in France on serious charges related to content moderation. Despite these challenges, Telegram’s finances are strong, turning a$173 million loss in 2023 into a$540 million profit in 2024. The company is also preparing to raise$1.5 billion through bonds, attracting major investors like BlackRock and Citadel. Grok AI is expected to enhance the user experience by improving information search and message drafting, positioning Telegram against rivals like WhatsApp. However, governments such as Vietnam have cracked down on the platform, accusing it of enabling criminal activity. Telegram denies these claims and emphasizes cooperation with legal authorities. The partnership with xAI signals a strategic bet on AI as central to Telegram’s future growth. Over the next year, Telegram faces the dual challenges of innovation and regulatory scrutiny on the global stage. U.S President Donald Trump's previously warm relationship with Apple C.E.O Tim Cook has recently cooled amid tensions over manufacturing plans. Trump criticized Cook during a Middle East tour, expressing frustration that Apple resists moving iPhone production out of China and into the U.S. Despite Trump's push for"reciprocal" tariffs to encourage domestic manufacturing, Apple intends to expand production in India and Vietnam instead. Cook also declined an invitation to join Trump on his Middle East trip, prompting public jabs from the president. On May 23, Trump threatened a 25% tariff on iPhones made outside the U.S., reversing earlier exemptions influenced by Cook's lobbying. The White House maintains that reshoring manufacturing is critical for national security while emphasizing continued productive talks with Apple. Apple is investing$500 billion in U.S. infrastructure and manufacturing initiatives, including chip production in Arizona and AI server facilities in Houston. However, shifting iPhone production fully to the U.S. remains unlikely due to cost concerns, with devices potentially rising to$3,500. Meanwhile, Apple faces growing competition in AI from rivals like Open A.I and Google, alongside legal challenges related to unfulfilled AI feature promises. Recent product struggles, such as with the Vision Pro headset, and a slowdown in China have contributed to Apple’s decline to third in market capitalization globally.
