and Carly Wilson delivering the latest scoop from the digital realm. The Children's Commissioner for England is advocating for a ban on AI"nudification" apps that generate deepfake sexual images of children. Concerns are rising as teenage girls fear these tools could be used to manipulate their images, leading many to restrict their social media activity. Despite the illegality of creating or sharing explicit images of minors, the apps remain legal, posing significant risks. Dame Rachel de Souza has called on the government to implement an AI bill ensuring developers address potential harms from their technology. The report highlights the prevalence of these alarming practices and urges immediate action from authorities, including proper age verification and regulation of social media platforms. It also illustrates a connection between deepfake abuse and severe mental health issues, such as PTSD and suicidal ideation. Legal experts express worry about the impact on young people, who may unwittingly engage in criminal acts due to a lack of understanding of the technology's consequences. The government's response includes a commitment to holding platforms accountable under the Online Safety Act, with the U.K pioneering new AI-related child sexual abuse offenses. Experts continue to stress the urgent need for awareness and preventative measures to protect vulnerable individuals.

Devin AI has introduced DeepWiki, a new tool that converts GitHub repositories into interactive, AI-driven documentation hubs. This tool uses Devin's DeepResearch agent to simplify understanding of complex codebases, proving beneficial for developers and educators. DeepWiki generates comprehensive, wiki-style pages by analyzing code files and README documents, transforming them at the click of a URL change. The platform also produces interactive diagrams, aiding users in visualizing code structures like class hierarchies and dependency graphs. Additionally, DeepWiki includes a conversational AI assistant to answer codebase-related queries using natural language. Since its release, the tool has indexed over 30,000 repositories, analyzing upwards of 4 billion lines of code. The developer community has praised it for cutting down the time and effort required to understand unfamiliar codebases. By offering immediate, AI-generated insights, DeepWiki enhances user confidence and efficiency in development. This tool represents a leap forward in codebase comprehension, integrating documentation, visuals, and conversational AI into one solution. For developers, DeepWiki has become an essential companion in navigating and contributing to GitHub projects. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the use of artificial intelligence in film will neither help nor harm a film's chance for an Oscar nomination. This decision aims to emphasize the significant role of human creativity in filmmaking. Recent controversies arose when AI was used to perfect the Hungarian dialogue in the Oscar-winning film, The Brutalist. Fans expressed discontent, with criticisms centering on the lack of authentic performance due to AI-assisted accents. On the other hand, some defended the film, arguing that AI played a minor role. The Oscars committee has implemented a new rule, requiring voters to watch all nominated films before casting their votes. This response aims to uphold the integrity of selections in light of A.I's emerging influence. Similarly, the Grammys have embraced AI in creative processes without compromising human artistry. Both institutions stress the value of human contributions, although they acknowledge the growing incorporation of AI. These developments reflect the entertainment industry's ongoing debate over A.I's role in creative pursuits.

Big AI companies continue to roll out tools promising to enhance productivity and save time, despite lingering concerns over issues like copyright abuse and energy use. One such tool is Google Gemini's new AI model, Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental, which integrates with Google apps such as Search, Maps, and YouTube. This model can summarize YouTube videos, offering a potential time-saving solution for users looking to grasp key points without watching lengthy content. Testing this feature, Gemini accurately summarized and provided timestamps for key moments in a 20-minute Super Bowl highlights video, although it made a minor error regarding a disallowed touchdown. Similarly, in analyzing a four-and-a-half-minute featurette of"The Grand Budapest Hotel," Gemini effectively highlighted main points from its audio but struggled with visual details. In an interview summary from Channel 4's talks with Charlie Brooker, Gemini again excelled at capturing audio content but failed to recognize visual context like participants’ behavior or location. This limitation underscores the model's dependency on audio and transcripts for accuracy. Users seeking to extract comprehensive visual information will still need to resort to watching the videos themselves. Apple is making headlines with its ongoing development of smart glasses, code-named N50, despite initial concerns regarding their cancellation. These glasses are set to incorporate Apple Intelligence, though they won't be ready for public release soon. The integration aims to enhance functionality with a new AI-driven Siri. Meanwhile, Apple is also developing new AI-powered AirPods with integrated cameras. On the competitive front, Meta remains a dominant player, having sold over two million Ray-Ban smart glasses since their 2023 launch. Meta's upcoming Gen 3 Ray-Ban glasses, rumored to include a display and neural wristband, are anticipated for release post-September 2025. Meta is also working on a premium model, codenamed"Hypernova," featuring a display panel and potentially priced at$1,000. The smart glasses market is heating up with ambitions from both Apple and Meta, as tech companies target this immersive segment.
