Carly W:and Carly Wilson delivering the latest scoop from the digital realm. Meta recently announced an update for its Ray-Ban Smart Glasses, introducing the ability to interact directly with Meta AI. Users can now engage the AI by saying"Hey Meta," allowing for a range of functionalities powered by live AI. This development enhances the glasses with the capability to identify people, objects, and places, and provide information upon request. Additionally, users can enjoy live translations between languages such as English, French, Italian, and Spanish. The smart glasses also facilitate social media interaction, allowing posts on Instagram and messages via Messenger through voice commands. This builds on previous integrations, like Apple Music, enabling users to stream music with ease. Meta's continuous enhancements to the smart glasses aim to provide a richer, more interactive user experience. The company's drive for innovation is evident in the adoption of its Llama model, further expanding the wearable's AI capabilities. This update aligns with Meta’s strategy to keep pushing boundaries in wearable technology. With these advancements, Meta reinforces its commitment to leading in smart device innovation.
Adam N2:WhatsApp is introducing a new feature, Advanced Chat Privacy, to enhance user safety. This update aims to prevent users from exporting chat records from group chats and one-on-one conversations, thus maintaining privacy and confidentiality. Having previously allowed anyone to export chats, including media files, WhatsApp’s new feature will offer greater control over shared content. Additionally, the feature will stop the automatic download of photos and videos in group chats, providing participants peace of mind. Users can activate Advanced Chat Privacy by toggling it on in chat settings, available on both Android and iOS devices. This move comes amidst growing concerns about data use, especially following the introduction of Meta AI in chats. Meta AI, while optional, cannot be removed and uses interactions to train the company’s AI systems. Recently, regulatory bodies like the U.K's Information Commissioner's Office have shown interest in monitoring how Meta employs AI within WhatsApp. WhatsApp has also introduced a beta feature to disable video before accepting video calls, addressing user privacy concerns. These updates reflect WhatsApp's commitment to addressing user feedback and ensuring privacy in digital communication. Microsoft has announced a significant expansion of its AI tools with the"Microsoft 365 Copilot Wave 2 Spring release." The new AI"agents" are designed to function as digital colleagues, performing complex workplace tasks. Aparna Chennapragada, Chief Product Officer at Microsoft, emphasized A.I's role as an integral collaborator in daily work. The announcement coincides with Microsoft's 2025 Work Trend Index, which highlights organizations restructuring around AI-powered human-agent collaboration. At the core are two new AI agents, Researcher and Analyst, capable of handling tasks traditionally requiring specialized expertise. These tools will be accessible through a new"Agent Store," featuring offerings from partners and custom-built agents. Microsoft views Copilot as a central organizing layer for AI interactions, akin to web browsers. Additionally, the Copilot Notebooks feature is introduced for grounding AI interactions in specific data collections. Microsoft's telemetry data reveals a high frequency of workplace interruptions, underscoring the need for productivity enhancements. The company's research indicates a shift in AI adoption from employee-driven to more strategic, top-down approaches.
Carly W:Google's AI has been found to conjure up meanings for non-existent idioms, showcasing a significant flaw in AI technology called hallucination. When asked about phrases like"you can't lick a badger twice" and"peanut butter platform heels," the AI provided invented explanations with confidence. Author Meaghan Wilson-Anastasios was among those who first noticed the bizarre behavior, pointing out its troubling implications. Google's AI Overviews, which launched last year, continues to provide inaccurate and sometimes comedic responses, drawing criticism from users. Despite efforts to address these hallucinations, the problem persists, affecting internet users and websites reliant on accurate click-through rates. Google's recent announcement to expand AI Overviews to handle more complex queries like coding and medical advice raises concerns. The missteps have led to public outrage, and even Google acknowledged the issue in a past statement admitting to"odd, inaccurate or unhelpful AI Overviews." Yet, the company maintains that users desire AI responses for complex questions, continuing its expansion despite the challenges. This development highlights the ongoing struggle to balance A.I's capability to answer inquiries with its lack of true understanding. The situation underscores the critical need for cautious deployment of AI in tasks requiring reliability and accuracy. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on April 23 to integrate artificial intelligence(AI) into K-12 education across the United States. The initiative involves the collaboration of the U.S. Education and Labor Departments to create AI courses and certification programs for high school students. Trump emphasized the importance of AI, stating it could represent a significant aspect of the future. The order also gives priority to AI in teacher training programs and aims to expand AI-related apprenticeships. A White House Task Force on AI Education will be established, chaired by Michael Kratsios, to develop resources and encourage AI usage in classrooms. This move aligns with bipartisan concerns about maintaining technological competitiveness, particularly against nations like China. While both political parties agree on A.I's importance in education, they diverge on the need for federal regulation. The aim is to prepare a workforce capable of advancing and utilizing AI technologies effectively. Other executive orders signed by Trump focus on areas such as university accreditation and support for Historically Black Colleges and Universities(HBCUs). The order comes amidst broader efforts to reshape the Education Department and responds to legal challenges regarding recent departmental changes.
