and Carly Wilson delivering the latest scoop from the digital realm. Nvidia's announcement regarding new U.S. government controls on exporting AI chips has led to a significant slump in shares of computer chip makers. These controls are expected to cost Nvidia an additional$5.5 billion, impacting their H20 integrated circuits. The U.S. government imposed the controls to prevent these advanced chips from being diverted to Chinese supercomputers. Following this announcement, shares of several Asian technology giants, such as Advantest and TSMC, fell sharply. Senator Elizabeth Warren had previously pressed the Commerce Department to enforce these restrictions. The controls did not originally include Nvidia's H20 chips under former President Biden's administration. Concerns have been amplified by China's development of the DeepSeek AI chatbot. In response, Nvidia plans to produce AI supercomputers in the United States, commissioning over a million square feet for manufacturing in Arizona and Texas. Their investment could yield up to half a trillion dollars in AI infrastructure within four years. This comes amid discussions on revising tariffs on electronics to target the semiconductor industry more effectively.

Microsoft has announced a new"computer use" feature for its Copilot Studio, allowing AI agents to interact with both websites and desktop applications. This feature echoes Open A.I’s Operator and Claude’s similar functionalities, providing businesses the ability to automate tasks seamlessly through AI. According to Charles Lamanna, this addition enables agents to execute tasks by mimicking human interaction with digital interfaces, making them less reliant on available APIs. Copilot Studio empowers AI to automate tasks such as data entry, market research, and invoice processing. This innovation includes the capability to adapt to changes in app and website interfaces, ensuring consistent performance. A similar feature, called Actions, was introduced to Microsoft's consumer Copilot, allowing background tasks like booking reservations and purchasing items. However, the Actions feature is initially limited to specific partners. In contrast, Copilot Studio offers broader compatibility with various websites and apps. This marks another step forward in AI-driven automation, enhancing efficiency in business processes. Anthropic's AI model, Claude, is gearing up to introduce a voice mode feature, a report suggests. The anticipated release could happen as soon as this month, with three distinctive voice options being revealed: Airy, Mellow, and Buttery. While competing AI models like Open A.I's Chat G.P.T have had voice capabilities for months, Claude is seemingly playing catch-up. Despite the delay, these developments indicate that Anthropic is narrowing the gap with competitors. Currently, Claude’s inability to handle voice inputs stands out as a shortcoming, particularly as AI models increasingly utilize voice interactions. Industry insiders see the addition of voice mode as a significant step toward enhancing user interaction, notably on mobile devices and wearables. While it's still speculated, the move into voice interaction signifies a shift towards faster and more intuitive AI communication. C.E.O Dario Amodei and Chief Product Officer Mike Krieger have hinted at these advancements, emphasizing an evolving user interface for desktop operations. The voice mode remains in development, as Anthropic collaborates with partners like Amazon and ElevenLabs. Availability might initially be limited to certain markets, but the AI firm is committed to integrating this feature into Claude's repertoire.

Google's DeepMind has unveiled a groundbreaking AI project known as DolphinGemma, designed to decode dolphin vocalizations. This initiative is a collaboration with Denise Herzing, an expert with over four decades of dolphin research. Using a 400-million parameter language model, DolphinGemma employs a system called CHAT to process and understand dolphin communications. The tool enables real-time interaction between researchers and dolphins through a specialized underwater device. CHAT matches dolphin sounds to a database, communicating equivalent human words to researchers. This system aims to facilitate interspecies communication by predicting dolphin speech patterns. According to Google, the technology is already revealing insights into dolphin language that would have been challenging to uncover otherwise. Denise Herzing suggests that while dolphins show intelligence, understanding their language remains a significant goal. The long-term aspiration is to achieve a form of communication that might allow a complete exchange with dolphins. This technological advancement signifies a major step forward in bridging human and dolphin interactions.
