and Carly Wilson delivering the latest scoop from the digital realm. Apple's approach to artificial intelligence is shifting its focus from chatbots to visual interaction. The company plans to integrate cameras into its wearables, such as AirPods and Apple Watch, by 2027. This initiative, called Visual Intelligence, allows users to talk to Siri about what they see, enhancing hands-free, screenless interaction. However, Apple has encountered significant challenges in executing this plan. The costly Vision Pro headset is considered uncomfortable for prolonged use. The rollout delays of an upgraded, humanlike Siri and the initial release of Apple Intelligence led to legal implications over false advertising. Despite Mike Rockwell's leadership in the AI team, Apple's progress lags behind competitors like Meta and Google. Meta's Ray-Ban glasses and Google’s Lens and Project Astra already showcase advanced visual intelligence. Amazon’s Alexa+ recently showcased similar capabilities but faced its own delays. The tech world awaits if Apple's future innovations will meet consumer expectations.

Mining startup Earth AI has made significant strides by discovering promising deposits of critical minerals in Australia. Unlike traditional methods, Earth AI has leveraged artificial intelligence to identify areas previously overlooked by the mining industry for decades. The company found deposits of copper, cobalt, and gold in the Northern Territory, and silver, molybdenum, and tin in New South Wales. Earth A.I's approach stems from founder Roman Teslyuk's graduate research, utilizing a national archive of geological data not commonly used. Despite initial skepticism from investors about relying on AI predictions, Earth AI transitioned into developing its own drilling equipment to validate its findings. They joined Y Combinator in 2019, refining their technology, and have recently raised$20 million in a Series B funding round. Teslyuk emphasizes the necessity of quicker exploration processes to meet modern demands, a far cry from the protracted timelines of 20th-century metal exploration. This innovative use of AI positions Earth AI as a potential game-changer in mineral discovery, differentiating it from others like KoBold. As they continue to refine their technology, Earth AI could reshape how the industry approaches mining exploration. Microsoft has unveiled new advancements for its Microsoft 365 Copilot, introducing two"deep reasoning" agents called Researcher and Analyst. Researcher leverages Open A.I's deep research AI model to conduct complex, multi-step investigations using data from sources like Salesforce and ServiceNow. Analyst uses the o3-mini reasoning model for tasks like transforming raw data into spreadsheets and executing Python code, functioning akin to a skilled data scientist. These tools, aiming to streamline business processes, are expected to be available to Microsoft 365 Copilot license holders in an early access program starting in April. Microsoft also introduced new autonomous agent capabilities within Copilot Studio, emphasizing the potential to automate virtually any task. These agent flows incorporate rule-based workflows that include AI actions, like directing feedback emails to relevant teams. The company is ambitious about how these tools will enhance user experience, promising a powerful yet"low code" solution. While the upgrades sound promising, their effectiveness in real-world application remains to be seen. Analysts and users alike are eager to assess whether Microsoft's offerings can fulfill its lofty claims. The tech world continues to witness fierce competition among giants like Microsoft, Google, and Open A.I, as they race to innovate in AI technology.

Open A.I has launched a free educational resource called Open A.I Academy to provide AI education for all skill levels. The academy offers a mix of online and in-person events, including workshops and peer discussions, accessible through a simple account sign-up. Initially targeting advanced developers, the program has expanded to include educators, students, job-seekers, and small business owners, aiming to enhance their learning and economic potential. Open A.I is teaming up with partners like Common Sense Media to deliver on-demand content and AI literacy workshops. An example includes Goodwill Keystone in Pennsylvania, which will teach job seekers how to use Chat G.P.T for resume critiques and career guidance. Meanwhile, Open A.I's Operator AI agent is set to expand beyond its U.S. debut to eight new countries but requires a Pro tier subscription. Open A.I reported servicing 400 million weekly active users by February, marking a notable user growth since December. Despite the competitive AI market, Open A.I stands out with these strategic expansions and initiatives. The company confirmed these user statistics have not been previously reported. Additionally, Meta announced its developers' conference,"Llamacon," set for April 29, 2025, focusing on open-source AI developments. In a decisive move, the U.S. has added over 50 Chinese tech companies to its export blacklist under the Trump administration. The U.S. Department of Commerce cited national security concerns, barring American firms from supplying these entities without a permit. Targeted firms were allegedly advancing China’s AI and quantum technologies for military purposes. The blacklist includes inadvertent suppliers to already sanctioned entities like Huawei. The move is part of broader efforts to curb Chinese access to advanced computing technologies. China’s foreign ministry condemned the restrictions, urging a reevaluation of what it called“generalizing national security.” Analysts highlight how Chinese firms exploit loopholes to access U.S. technologies. The Biden administration's continued export controls reflect heightened tensions between Washington and Beijing. Jeffrey I. Kessler emphasized that these measures aim to prevent misuse of American technology. The blacklist reflects an ongoing strategy to protect U.S. strategic technologies from foreign exploitation.
