and Carly Wilson delivering the latest scoop from the digital realm. Engineers working under Elon Musk's so-called Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, are reportedly developing software to facilitate large-scale layoffs of federal workers. The software, named AutoRIF, was originally created by the Department of Defense decades ago and is now being tweaked by Musk's team. Internal databases show DOGE operatives have accessed and are editing AutoRIF's code, with recent changes noted in repositories linked to the Office of Personnel Management. Federal firings have historically been a manual process, but the new software aims to automate it, raising concerns about potential widespread terminations. It's suggested that Musk-affiliated engineers might be overlaying new functionalities or building custom software using AutoRIF's code. Emails are circulating demanding federal workers justify their weekly contributions, with their responses supposedly being analyzed by an AI model. The Centers for Disease Control previously engaged in identifying critical employees, but that input was seemingly disregarded during dismissals. The OPM has instructed agencies to disregard recent emails following mixed messages about responding. This revelation coincides with preparations for a second round of government layoffs. As DOGE refines AutoRIF, many government employees worry about their job security.

An unusual prank greeted some employees at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on Monday, featuring a fake video of President Donald Trump interacting with Elon Musk's toes. The video, allegedly created using artificial intelligence, highlighted the power dynamic between Musk and Trump, and was displayed on internal monitors at the HUD headquarters in Washington, D.C. The prank arrived as many federal employees resumed office work, following Trump's efforts to reduce remote work options. This incident also comes amid significant layoffs at HUD, with proposed reductions of up to 50% of agency staff. Some employees viewed the video as a welcome show of resistance, while others shared it widely on social media platforms, drawing mixed reactions. Democratic accounts praised the humor, but HUD Secretary Scott Turner's representatives condemned using taxpayer resources for such means. A HUD spokesperson mentioned that appropriate action would be taken against those responsible for the prank. Neither the White House nor Elon Musk have commented on the incident. The video's AI origins reveal a common error, showing Musk with two left feet, sparking broader discussions about AI content reliability. The prank was initially reported by The Washington Post and independent journalist Marisa Kabas. Google has globally launched a free version of its Gemini Code Assist AI tool aimed at solo developers. This initiative primarily targets students, hobbyists, freelancers, and startups, aiming to simplify coding tasks with advanced AI capabilities. Ryan J. Salva from Google emphasized that this tool offers more than other competitors, such as GitHub Copilot, with a generous limit of up to 180,000 code completions per month. Unlike others, Gemini Code Assist is powered by Google’s Gemini 2.0 AI, capable of generating entire code blocks and providing real-time code assistance. It's compatible with environments like Visual Studio Code and supports all public domain programming languages. The tool allows developers to use natural language for coding instructions and supports multiple languages and contexts. While the Individual tier is comprehensive, some advanced features are reserved for paid versions. These include productivity metrics and integrations with Google Cloud services. Google's move is seen as a significant step toward making sophisticated coding assistance widely accessible. This new offering has the potential to enhance productivity and ease the coding process for individual developers worldwide.

Adobe has launched a new Photoshop mobile app on iOS, marking a significant shift from its traditional desktop offerings. Celebrating Photoshop's 35th anniversary, Adobe introduces an app designed to cater to the"next generation of creators." Unlike previous mobile attempts, this isn't just a compact version of the desktop app but a distinct evolution accommodating today's mobile preference. The new app includes familiar features like layers and masking, while introducing a Tap Select tool for easier object editing on phones. Available globally, users can opt for a free version or subscribe for additional features at$8 a month. An Android version is set to release later this year. The app serves as a gateway to other Photoshop versions, integrating Adobe's generative AI tools, including Firefly AI. It syncs with users' Adobe accounts, allowing seamless project transitions from other Adobe apps. As Adobe doubles down on AI across its platforms, the mobile app aims to engage both seasoned professionals and emerging creators. The app's reception among its target audience, competing with other mobile editing solutions, remains to be seen. This Sunday, xAI introduced a new voice interaction feature for its Grok 3 AI model, currently accessible to premium subscribers. The feature draws parallels to Open A.I's Chat G.P.T Advanced Voice Mode but adds a twist by offering various uncensored personalities. The most notable among these is the"unhinged" mode, which AI researcher Riley Goodside brought into the spotlight. Goodside showcased this mode with a video depicting the A.I's exaggerated responses, including loud yelling and insults. In contrast to AI platforms like Chat G.P.T that moderate content, Grok offers modes such as"Sexy,""Conspiracy," and more, pushing boundaries of traditional chatbot interactions. Elon Musk, the driving force behind xAI, aims for Grok to deliver uncensored and"based" answers, contrasting with what he sees as Chat G.P.T's restrictive outputs. However, Grok's voice modes, while novel, demonstrated repetitive behavior, lacking the fluidity found in Chat G.P.T's voice capabilities. This unique approach aligns with Musk's original vision for xAI, leaning away from the conventions set by other AI corporations. Despite technological limitations, Grok's provocative features signify a deliberate shift in AI interaction dynamics. These developments continue to position xAI uniquely in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
