Welcome to Digimasters Shorts, we are your hosts Adam Nagus
Carly W:and Carly Wilson delivering the latest scoop from the digital realm. Microsoft Research and Xbox game studio Ninja Theory have unveiled a breakthrough AI model for gaming called Muse. This generative AI is designed to create game environments based on player interactions, enhancing game creation processes. Trained on extensive human gameplay data, Muse has the ability to generate consistent and diverse gameplay visuals. While still in development, its early capabilities include generating visuals at a limited resolution, marking significant progress from previous AI gaming models. The technology aims to assist game creators in prototyping and enhancing gaming worlds without replacing human creativity. Microsoft emphasizes that AI should augment, not replace, the artistic vision of game developers. Real-time demonstrations have shown Muse's capability to alter game environments dynamically. There are also plans to use Muse for preserving and modernizing classic games. Microsoft indicates that individual Xbox studios will choose how to integrate AI, ensuring that creative goals align with technological advancements. Lastly, the focus remains on using AI to facilitate creativity and innovation in game development, without compromising jobs or artistic integrity.
Adam N2:Volvo has unveiled new technical details of its ES90, an all-electric luxury sedan set to debut on March 5 with a starting price between$70,000 and$80,000. This is Volvo's first smart car to feature Nvidia's Drive AGX Orin chip, which claims an eightfold improvement in AI performance. The upgraded AI will enhance safety features and vehicle performance, potentially supporting advanced self-driving technology. It will also facilitate improved connectivity and battery management due to rapid processing of essential systems. The ES90's tech operates on Volvo's Superset tech stack, ensuring a comprehensive integration of hardware and software. Equipped with numerous sensors including LiDAR, cameras, and radars, it offers enhanced collision avoidance capabilities. Anders Bell, Volvo's engineering chief, highlights the company's commitment to making safer cars more efficiently. Volvo refers to this as Safe Space Technology, aiming to create a secure environment inside and around the vehicle. Details on the car's design and range will be disclosed during the March reveal. Fiverr has introduced a new program called the Personal AI Creation Model, designed to empower freelancers by using AI to enhance their own body of work. This initiative is part of Fiverr Go, aiming to utilize AI as a tool for creativity rather than a replacement for freelancers. C.E.O Micha Kaufman stated that this will make freelancers"irreplaceable" instead of obsolete. The move comes amid concerns about AI replacing jobs, particularly in the creative and coding industries. Fiverr's approach contrasts with other companies opting to replace workers outright with AI automation. While Fiverr competitors have AI tools to connect freelancers with clients, none have embraced AI to enhance creators' work directly. Freelancers in categories such as voiceover and graphic design can manage their models and set prices for AI-generated work. However, access comes at a cost—$25 per month for top freelancers. This program offers control but also adds another layer of financial commitment to gig workers. The success of this initiative will depend on whether it truly benefits creators and offers equitable terms.
Carly W:Google has announced a new experiment called"Career Dreamer," designed to assist individuals in exploring a wider range of career possibilities using artificial intelligence. This innovative tool analyzes users' experiences, skills, educational background, and interests to connect them to potential career paths. Career Dreamer allows users to create a career identity statement, which can be added to their C.V's or used during interviews. Additionally, the tool features a visual exploration of careers tailored to individual backgrounds and interests. Users can collaborate with Google's AI assistant, Gemini, to refine cover letters and C.V's. However, Career Dreamer does not provide direct links to job postings, unlike platforms such as LinkedIn or Indeed. The tool is currently available only as an experiment in the United States. Google collaborated with various organizations to ensure Career Dreamer meets the needs of diverse job seekers, from students to veterans. The initiative is based on the insight that individuals often hold multiple jobs and careers throughout their lives. Career Dreamer aims to help users frame their experiences into cohesive narratives, aiding in job transitions and career changes. Facebook's parent company, Meta, has announced a substantial initiative known as"Project Waterworth," aiming to build a 31,000-mile subsea internet cable. This ambitious project is set to connect several regions, including the U.S, Brazil, South Africa, and India, by the end of the decade. The mega undertaking highlights a growing trend where tech giants seek greater control over subsea cable infrastructures. With growing data demands from AI advancements, these cables are being specifically designed to meet more data-intensive needs. Meta's cable will feature a 24-fiber-pair system, in contrast to the usual 8-16, promising better support for AI projects. Details about the exact cable trajectory are not specific, but the investment is expected to run into billions. Past endeavors of similar nature often faced challenges, from natural disruptions to political tensions, as seen in the scrapped plan targeting a U.S-Hong Kong connection. Concerns are present, with potential environmental impacts and geopolitical implications under scrutiny. However, countries like the U.S and India have praised the initiative for its potential to enhance global digital connectivity. While Meta leads this charge, it joins other tech giants like Google and Amazon in expanding underwater fiber infrastructures across the globe.
