Carly W:and Carly Wilson delivering the latest scoop from the digital realm. NVIDIA has introduced a new compact generative AI supercomputer, the Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit, notable for its enhanced performance and reduced price. This palm-sized device, priced at$249, delivers up to a 1.7x increase in generative AI inference performance and boosts memory bandwidth by 50% compared to its predecessor. It's designed for a wide range of users, from AI developers to students, facilitating creation and deployment in generative AI, robotics, and computer vision. New software updates also enhance the performance of existing Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kits. The enhanced kit supports high-resolution, multi-camera setups due to its NVIDIA Ampere architecture GPU with tensor cores and a 6-core Arm CPU. NVIDIA's ecosystem offers extensive tools and support, including Isaac for robotics and Metropolis for vision AI, alongside tutorials and community engagement. The upgrades are applicable not only to the new device but also extend to the Jetson Orin NX series. The company emphasizes quick development with tools like NVIDIA Omniverse Replicator and NVIDIA TAO Toolkit. This launch marks NVIDIA's continued commitment to advancing AI accessibility and capability.
Adam N:Chinese engineers working on AI chips for advanced weapons systems have reportedly accessed U.K technology. Two Chinese companies, Moore Threads and Biren Technology, faced U.S blacklisting but acquired licenses from U.K's Imagination Technologies before the bans. Imagination claims it hasn't enabled military use of its technology, despite the licenses with the Chinese firms. Insiders suggested knowledge transfers were significant enough that Chinese counterparts might replicate Imagination's designs. The company disputed these allegations, claiming compliance with export restrictions and barring military applications. Concerns arose about the 2017 takeover of Imagination by a Chinese-backed equity firm. Former C.E.O Ron Black expressed fears about technological theft and Chinese control. Adjustments were made after U.K government intervention, preventing Chinese board appointments. Imagination maintains the deals were standard and cut ties with firms on the U.S export restriction list. Allegations persist regarding unauthorized technology use in China-made GPUs, stirring further scrutiny. Salesforce has announced the launch of Agentforce 2.0, an AI-powered digital labor platform aimed at automating routine tasks and reducing reliance on human employees. The company claims this platform has halved the number of employees needed for simple customer queries, enabling resource reallocation to strategic roles. Agentforce agents autonomously use business data to support internal operations, handling inquiries and scheduling meetings. The platform integrates advanced tools like MuleSoft for workflow automation and Tableau for real-time analytics, enhancing efficiency. Slack integration also allows for automated communications, minimizing manual intervention. Salesforce's co-founder, Marc Benioff, emphasized that the AI agents have not only streamlined tasks but also driven growth initiatives. The company's plan includes expanding sales teams by over 10% and exploring integration with physical robots in various industries. Agentforce 2.0 is set for general availability in February 2025, but some features are accessible earlier. Despite its progress, Salesforce faces competition from other major AI platforms like Microsoft Copilot, Meta Platforms' AI Studio, and Alphabet's Gemini 2.0. These competitors are also focused on enhancing automation and workflow optimization for enterprise clients.
Carly W:Google has introduced"Whisk," a new AI tool that allows users to upload photos to create a single AI-generated image. This creative tool is designed to provide quick inspiration rather than serve as a detailed image editor. Whisk operates by combining subjects, settings, and styles from user-provided images to form a new composite. Using its core AI offering, Gemini, in tandem with DeepMind's Imagen 3, Whisk captures the"essence" of the images. Users can edit and remix images without the need for text input, although text can be used for specific guidance. Whisk stands out as an image-to-image generator, adding another dimension to the burgeoning field of AI-generated artwork. It offers users rapid visual exploration through remixes rather than exact replicas. Currently available in the U.S through Google Labs, Whisk is still in its early development stage. Google aims to stay competitive in the tech race alongside companies like Open A.I. As AI technology continues to evolve, Google leverages its acquisition of DeepMind to enhance its suite of innovative products. Open A.I has expanded its Chat G.P.T web search feature, making it available to all users, including those on free accounts. This feature, formerly exclusive to Plus subscribers, allows the AI chatbot to access real-time information across various topics. Open A.I's integration is available on the Chat G.P.T mobile app and website, part of the G.P.T-4o models. Unlike Google, Chat G.P.T offers a clean, ad-free interface that focuses on AI-generated content summaries with source citations. This approach may appeal to users frustrated with Google's ad-heavy search results. The latest update also enhances the Advanced Voice feature, allowing audio interactions to access real-time data. This development marks a significant step as Open A.I continues to broaden its accessibility to up-to-date information. The ad-free experience might lead some users to prefer Chat G.P.T over traditional search engines. With real-time web results now embedded, Chat G.P.T aims to provide a more efficient and user-friendly search experience.
Adam N:Meta has released a new update for its mixed-reality Ray-Bans, enhancing them with AI-powered features. These glasses can now perform live translation and integrate Shazam for music identification. The live AI assistance also offers hands-free suggestions based on surroundings, enhancing user experience while traveling or exploring. Users can translate conversations in real-time among English, Spanish, French, and Italian, aiming to eliminate language barriers. Mark Zuckerberg first introduced these features at the Connect 2024 developer conference. However, the advanced features are currently limited to participants of Meta's Early Access Program in the U.S. and Canada. Google's and Samsung's recent unveiling of Android XR suggests growing competition in the smart-glasses market. Their devices are set to run on Gemini, an AI assistant offering camera translation and live view for maps. Apple is also reportedly in the process of developing its own smart specs, highlighting a burgeoning trend in wearable technology innovation.
