Carly W:and Carly Wilson delivering the latest scoop from the digital realm. Apple is reportedly planning to launch an AI-powered smart home display by March 2025. The device will feature a six-inch square display, similar to an iPad but with thicker bezels and a front camera for FaceTime. It will come in silver and black, offering a touch-based interface that combines elements of iOS and watchOS but primarily controlled by voice. The smart display will integrate Apple Intelligence, focusing on smart home product control through a customizable home screen. It can function as an intercom across multiple rooms and will prioritize security with alerts and camera footage. Sensors will adjust its features based on proximity, akin to Nest thermostats. While it will include apps like Safari and Apple Music, there won't be a dedicated App Store. Designed as a"command center," it will work in conjunction with other Apple products and requires an iPhone for setup. Apple's move is seen as a direct competition with Amazon's Echo Hub and Google's Nest Hub Max, urging a similar pricing strategy. Future plans include a robotic version of the hub, indicating Apple's strong push into the smart home market.
Adam N:Aymeric Zhuo and Osman Ramadan, both seeing themselves as underdogs, have launched a new AI venture, Agemo, exiting from stealth mode. The duo previously worked together at Shift Lab and turned down opportunities at Open A.I to build Agemo, a platform for non-developers to autonomously develop software using text prompts. With$4 million in seed funding from investors like Firstminute Capital and notable executives from DeepMind and Datadog, Agemo aims to differentiate itself with a neurosymbolic AI system for software reasoning. Unlike competitors such as Poolside and Magic, Agemo's platform goes beyond providing developer tools by creating systems that understand and reason in software independently. Agemo’s AI system can solve problems it hasn’t been trained on, providing actionable solutions instead of simply following trained data. Zhuo notes the limitations of current large language models and emphasizes the need for AI to make inferences rather than rely solely on existing data. Against giants that have raised hundreds of millions, Agemo prides itself on being capital-efficient and aims to build a sustainable business with its approach. Based in London, the startup views the city as a hub of AI talent, rich with potential for ambitious projects. Agemo plans to release a platform called CodeWords as it prepares to enter the U.S. market, aspiring to capture enterprise interest. Apple has introduced a new AI feature for iPhones, iPads, and Macs that summarizes notifications using a tiny language learning model. This AI feature, debuting in iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1, attempts to condense multiple notifications from an app into a brief overview. It has proven useful for summarizing Apple Home notifications, accurately reporting statuses such as"Garage changed status multiple times; recently closed." However, the summaries often struggle with conveying the context of messages, amusingly distorting emails or group texts. Despite its limitations, it can deliver quick insights, like alerting users to activity around their home with a simple notification. Users have shared humorous instances where the AI misinterpreted notifications, making them entertaining if not always accurate. Apple Intelligence’s capability to mix up unrelated notifications adds to the comedy, creating more confusion than clarity at times. While the feature might not be life-changing, some find levity in how it disrupts the monotony of constant notifications. It's a feature that attempts to ease notification overload, but its initial implementations suggest some refinement is needed. Nonetheless, it offers a potentially amusing reprieve in users' daily digital interactions.
Carly W:YouTube is currently testing a groundbreaking feature allowing creators to use AI to"restyle" licensed songs specifically for their Shorts. This experimental feature lets a select group of creators modify song elements like mood and genre through YouTube's Dream Track AI. The AI generates a unique 30-second soundtrack tailored to the creator's input. Restyled tracks come with clear attribution to the original song, ensuring transparency. Artists like Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, and John Legend have agreed to participate in this AI-driven project. However, details on which songs can be restyled or which music labels are involved remain undisclosed. Reports indicate that YouTube may have approached major music labels to include their songs in AI training. The Verge sought more information from YouTube but has not received a response yet. The initiative highlights the evolving intersection of artificial intelligence and music creation on YouTube's platform. ServiceNow has introduced new governance capabilities for its Now platform to enhance confidence in enterprise AI usage. These features aim to bridge the gap between AI experimentation and full-scale production. The governance tools, including Now Assist Guardian and Now Assist Data Kit, help manage AI deployments within organizations. Jeremy Barnes, VP of AI Product at ServiceNow, emphasized the need for these tools as enterprises increasingly deploy AI for significant business impacts. The updates address the challenge of AI projects stalling between proof of concept and production. With the rise of agentic AI frameworks, there's a growing demand for robust governance and human oversight. ServiceNow's new tools are designed to mitigate risks like hallucination, which is a concern in generative AI models. The platform's AI governance framework integrates with its CMDB tool, ensuring AI-powered enhancements are trusted and compliant. This comprehensive approach aims to maintain control over autonomous AI systems while boosting productivity. ServiceNow is committed to ensuring that hallucination does not hinder enterprise AI deployment.
